What Homer's ILIAD is to Greek
Civilization and the great classics of yore are to
different nations of the world, the MAHABHARAT is to
India. Written by Rishi Ved Vyasa, the ancient
philosopher-thinker who was known to be the fountain of
all human knowledge, it has been translated into many
languages and even presented in ballet form in western
and oriental countries.
To capture the magnificence, the
grandeur and drama of this great epic was the dream of
producer-director Dr. B.R. Chopra, one of India eminent
filmmakers. B.R. TV has staked enormous resources, to
bring to television audiences the richness and the
grandeur of the period to which the MAHABHARAT belonged. rated as the most popular TV program on India's
Doordarshan. The Part One of Mahabharat serial
consisted of 94 episodes each
with a
running time of 45 minutes - a total of 65 hours of Hindutav. Mahabharat.
Part I of Mahabharat TV Serial can be purchased on 16 DVDs or videocassettes

MAHABHARAT
KATHA Part II of
this great epic contains portions and stories
left out in Part I, so that tele-viewers all over the
world can view without taking the trouble to read the
voluminous work and get the complete message contained
in the great epic. Each volume contains 3 episodes of
about 45 minutes each with a total of 45 episodes. Please
note: these dvds seems to have been mastered from video
cassettes originals (rather than from 35mm film) with English subtitles permanently burnt on
to picture, hence there is no option to turn off these
subtitles. The visual/audio quality of Mahabharat Katha
lacks the brilliance of digitally enhanced Mahabharat
Part I. Some episodes have faded yellowish colors.
These dvds are offered as they are for their
mythological content and nostalgic value.
